A'Leah Burrell

Miss Hampton Roads Outstanding Preteen 2009

About Me

I am a 7th grader at Grafton Middle School. I am a dancer and have been dancing since I was 2 years old. My favorite dance is tap. I also enjoy singing and playing flag footgball (yes, I really do enjoy it) and soccer. My favorite color is hot pink!

My dad and mom are Minister Jeffrey Burrell, Sr. and Catina Burrell. I have 2 brothers (Shane & Jay) and 1 sister (Taylor).

Like most preteens, I like to talk and text on my cell and hang out with my friends. However, I also enjoy volunteering in my community.

As Miss Hampton Roads Outstanding Preteen I will promote my platform "C3: Combating a Cancer Cure." I have lost one too many family members to Cancer and I am determined to help find a cure.

I also work with the Down Syndrome Association of Hampton Roads to establish my project, "Yes, We Can! Helping Children with Down Syndrome Succeed". In addition I will also continue my work "healing hearts with the arts." This is something I do with my little sister, Taylor Burrell, who is Miss Portsmouth Seawall's Outstanding Preteen. Together we are "Sister Act." We use the arts (singing, dancing, acting) to help lift the spirits of elderly residents at nursing homes and children at the children's hospitals.
